Working Groups
About Our Working groups
PRISE brings educational stakeholders together to work on issues of common interest. At present the PRISE working groups are:
1. New Teacher Support
PRISE has developed and runs a new teacher support program. This working group studies the research on what constitutes best practices in new teacher support and uses those findings to inform the development of the PRISE new teacher support program. Members have developed a conceptual framework to explain the various components of the program and how they all work together to retain teachers.
2. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The DEI working group’s primary goal is to improve teacher practices and school environments in order to foster belonging and create welcoming STEM classrooms where all students are empowered to persist in STEM courses, pursue STEM careers, and gain STEM literacy. The group is developing a framework for creating welcoming classrooms with the aim of offering professional learning communities (PLC) in which K-16 STEM educators can work together to improve their practice.
3. STEM teacher engagement and recruitment.
This working group explores ways to interest high school and higher ed students in STEM teaching careers. They have organized and hosted the PRISE STEM Educator Career Exploration Fair and have created the Young STEM Educator Awards to recognize contributions to STEM education by students. Their work is now linked with the STEM Teacher Development Coalition.
